Mission Teams on POW

Well, we have come to the end of another building season on the camp.  We had about 60 people pass through Hollis this summer in building teams or outreach teams. The Renfro team hosted Outrigger Island VBS here in Hollis. The Waynesboro team held the same VBS in Coffman Cove. Grace Bap- tist team held an AIG (Answers in Genesis) Crea- tion VBS in the nearby Na- tive community of Hydaburg. Sunshine Bible Academy from Miller, S.D. was here for their 3rd summer. They not only performed 7 times in Ketchikan and on Prince of Wales Island; but they also accomplished lots of amazing work on the camp from cutting wood and putting sides on the wood shed, to staining siding, to landscaping, to working on the new pole barn construction (plus lots more!) Lots of seeds were planted and we know of at least 10 Island kids who received Christ as their Savior because of the message spread by these teams.

HAVE some photos you’d like to have on our website from your summer mission trip to Alaska…?

“It has only been about a month since we came back from Alaska, but to be perfectly honest it feels like an eternity!!!  I miss you all so much, and I wish more than anything else that I could be back with you guys!!!”
Phil Kosakowski, Miller, South Dakota

And let us run the race with endurance …

Hold firmly to the word of life; then, on the day of Christ’s return, I will be proud that I did not run the race in vain and that my work was not useless.    Philippians 2:16 NLT

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. Hebrews 12:1 NLT

“Serving God this summer in Hollis taught me the joy of Faith put into Action.  Whether serving by interces- sory prayer, remembering the names of the new people we met, choreo- graphing to VBS songs, sanding, painting, or just being there to show our friends that we love them - God was in it all!”
Christine Barnes
Savannah, GA

“On a sunny day in July, all the island churches gathered for a picnic near Thorne Bay: This is the first gath- ering of such magnitude and outpouring of island Christians I have ever seen. I hope it becomes a yearly tradition. That evening, Hollis Community Church had a great impromptu concert by the band One Way Out from California. It was awesome that so many people were able to make it!”

“To have missionaries travel all the way to little Hollis was humbling to be so loved. And the Sunshine Bible Academy teens were a delight – I loved spending time with their girls chucking rocks as part of a land- scaping project!”

Hello everyone, We wanted to send a quick update.  (As most of you have guessed, we are late with our September Newsletter Update. This is mostly due to Rhonda and the kids starting school in September, and she would have gone into “overload” if she tried to get it out on time.) Continue Reading »

Prayer Request for Canaan

Canaan had an EEG (electroencephologram) done yesterday morning in Ketchikan.  He is supposed to have one of these done about every six months since his seizure and while being on medication. Hopefully we will hear a report on that soon, but the prayer is that it is “all clear”.  (We were going to have to go to GA to have it done, but found out they can do them in Ketchikan, but there is no pediatric neurologist to read the report.  So, it has been sent to his doctor in GA for the reading.)

We will begin a boys club (and girls) on September 12 called Contenders of the Faith. (You can find out more about them at www.keepersofthefaith.com

It is very similar to Scouts, but with a Christian perspective, bible memory verses, etc. Kids earn badges to be worn on sashes.

This weekend Sunday and Monday August 19th and 20th speakers from Alpha Omega Institute in Colorado will be here in Hollis conducting a Creation Seminar. Please pray that many people will come out for this, for seekers and skeptics alike. (You can find more information about them at www.discovercreation.org)

As a team was getting ready to leave for Ketchikan on Sunday right after church, Caden fell. He stuck his arm out to catch himself and hurt his arm. He could move it, so we put an icepack on and they went to get on the ferry headed for Ketchikan. Later in the evening his arm began to swell and had more pain. Jeff took him to the emergency room and he has a compression fracture at both the radius and ulna; doctor called it a Colles fracture, radiologist called it a Torus fracture. So…Caden has to keep it splinted, and then go back to see Orthopedic guys in Ketchikan where they will xray again and cast it. Please pray that casting is all that will be needed.

please leave your church’s name and website url below, if you’ve sent teams, or support us through prayer or finances

We want to link up with you!

Thanks!

AWANA Alaska Offering

Jeff & Rhonda,

As a year end fund raiser, our AWANA group had a penny drive for the Alaska
Mission Trip. The kids brought their pennies every week and put them into
two jars. One jar represented Misty Lingle’s team (Tracy’s wife) and the
other jar represented Chris Lane’s (teacher at Greenbrier H.S.) team.
Misty’s group collected the most pennies by 90 cents. The total collection
of pennies by the AWANA kids, for Alaska Missions, was $238.28.

Because Misty’s team won, she got to throw a pie in Chris’s face last night
(see video attached). You can see he shared his pie with the kids. HA!

This is interesting because Chris Lane will be a member of our July mission
team. You will have to thank him, personally, for taking one on the kisser
for Alaska Missions. HA!

Still praying for tires,
Chris
